Explosives Development Facility
Marshall Craft supported the United States Navy’s requirements in creating a major explosives development facility at the Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center to facilitate the relocation of the Explosives Engineering Detachment from Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Virginia. The project encompassed nine new explosive process testing and storage buildings that house approximately 180 specialized equipment and offices.
Each building was designed to meet the Navy’s rigorous blast-resistant and blast-relief standards, ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational integrity. The complex is organized as a series of small, highly specialized facilities separated by a proper blast radius determined by Explosives Safety Quantity Distance.
The resulting environment supports critical research and development while prioritizing safety, precision, and operational efficiency.
