Calling All Artists

Marshall Craft Associates, an architecture firm located in the historic Clipper Mill complex in Baltimore's Woodberry neighborhood, is seeking a local artist (or artists) to exhibit their work in our office. Individual artists and group shows are both welcome.

Our lobby offers two exhibition walls — one measuring 23'11" x 8' and another measuring 10'6" x 8'. The space is visible to our staff and visitors year-round, and we welcome work available for display, sale, or both.

Marshall Craft also participates in the annual Mingle at the Mill each November, when artisans and tenants throughout Clipper Mill open their doors to the public for an evening. This year's event is November 19th — a great opportunity for your work to reach a wider audience.

Length of Display

Display terms are flexible and will be determined per artist — ranging from a single month to a full quarter (3 months) or multiple quarters. Please specify your preferred length in your application. Final display length will be set by Marshall Craft based on the number and variety of submissions received, to keep rotation fair for all participating artists.

Exhibition Opportunity

Selected artists may use our lobby space to host a public or private exhibition at no cost during their display period (once per quarter for artists displaying over multiple quarters). This includes access to the lobby space only — Marshall Craft does not provide food, refreshments, or additional materials.

Artists must submit exhibition date/time requests for approval either at the start of the loan agreement or no later than one month before the desired date.

Artists on display for an extended period are welcome to rotate their work to reflect their current portfolio. Any rotated artwork must be approved by the Marshall Craft team and remain workplace-appropriate (no explicit content).

Marshall Craft has sole discretion over artwork selection and length of display terms.

Eligibility

Open to artists working in any hangable medium (painting or photography preferred, but not required) who are local to the Baltimore or DMV area and able to deliver and install their work at our Clipper Mill office.

Submitted work must be workplace-appropriate — no nudity, profanity, or similarly explicit content.

Marshall Craft has basic hardware and installation tools on hand; whether we provide hardware for your piece or you supply your own will be determined case-by-case.

How to Apply

Submit the following by Sunday, September 20, 2026 to Madeline Arbutus, Marshall Craft's Graphic Designer & Marketing Specialist, at marbutus@mca.design with the subject line "Application: Marshall Craft Artist in Residence":

• Name

• Phone number

• Email address

• Link to portfolio or website

• Preferred length of display (we'll make a good-faith effort to accommodate, but some flexibility may be requested given submission volume — final length confirmed before installation)

• A brief artist statement describing your work and practice (150 words or fewer)

• A list of specific works you'd like to display, with dimensions (including framed dimensions if applicable). No minimum number of pieces, but please cap submissions at 10. Final arrangement and quantity will be determined by Marshall Craft.
